Where do Surinam cockroaches nest?

They like the warm, damp soil found under rocks, piles of leaves, woodpiles, and other debris. Also called “greenhouse roaches,” these cockroaches love the soil found inside greenhouses.

As is the case with other cockroaches, Surinam cockroaches are nocturnal. They are inactive during the day and emerge at night to feed on plants, often causing significant damage to them.

Surinam cockroaches need very high heat and humidity levels to survive, so they don’t last long in temperature-controlled homes. The most common way they get inside is by hitching a ride on a potted plant.

Are Surinam cockroaches dangerous?

If they do find a way into your home, they might bring some bacteria and pathogens with them, but Surinam cockroaches are more of a threat to plants than to people.
